Rootstech 2026

ree

It's that time of year again when Rootstech, the world's biggest genealogy conference. opens for registration. I am so excited to be attending in person this time round, and I will be delivering two classes. The first is on Scottish church records and looking beyond baptisms, marriages and funerals. In the second class, we'll be looking at Scottish clans, surnames and tartans and whether these can be helpful for exploring your Scottish roots.

The best thing about Rootstech is that even if you can't make it to Utah in person, there is a huge amount of content which is streamed online, absolutely free of charge. If time differences mean you can't watch live, then the content is made available on the Rootstech website to watch back at your leisure. Register for your free online place here: https://www.familysearch.org/en/rootstech/registration.

Rootstech has already started to announce some of the speakers and sessions for the 2026 event, although you'll have to wait until the start of 2025 for the full timetable. Whether you're interested in how AI can help your genealogical research, Scandinavian research or DNA, there will be a session of interest.

If you're attending in person, come and say hello!
