Researching your family history can be a lonely business, all those hours spent in front of the computer or in dusty archives. Although many of us are members of local family history societies, or have friends who are similarly genealogically obsessed, getting together with other researchers on a national or international basis doesn't happen often. That's why RootsTech is such an amazing opportunity for genealogists, whatever their experience level and expertise.
What sort of genealogy conference is RootsTech?
RootsTech is basically a one-stop shop for everything genealogy-related. It's organised by FamilySearch, one of the biggest records sites which we've all used. RootsTech was first held in 2011 in Salt Lake City, and draws thousands of visitors to the seminars, lectures and shopping opportunities provided. Even better, RootsTech is digital which means that those of us on this side of the Atlantic can drop into the lectures and webinars virtually.
RootsTech's online provision is absolutely free, and once you've registered you'll have access to over 200 online classes delivered by experts from across the world, on every genealogy topic imagineable. RootsTech 2024 will be held between 29 February and 2 March.
Glasgow Genealogy At RootsTech!
Part of the reason why I'm so excited about RootsTech in 2024 is that I'm going to be delivering a webinar to attendees across the world. I will be presenting a webinar on Scottish passport records - where to access them, what they look like, what information you can get from them, and how you can use them to flesh out your family history. See you there!
